Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky, born 16th December 1866, was an influential Russian painter and art theorist. After spending many years honing his painting skills and trying to find his own style, Kandinsky painted one of the world’s first fully abstract paintings. The overall shape of the WI reflects on the one hand side the abstract, geometrical style - especially the cap - but on the other hand his Russian roots. The shape of the cone is a reminder of one of his early Moscow Church paintings and his Russian background.
