More than 1,000 years ago, as the founder of the Carolingian Renaissance – the fusion of classical ideals with the intellectual heritage of the Germanic world – Charlemagne created the basis for western culture and a European identity. The Patron of Art Edition Karl der Grosse, Hommage à Charlemagne pays tribute to this great cultural visionary of the first millennium with an equally great writing instrument. The barrel and cap of Edition 4810 are made of delicately wound Ag 925 sterling silver. The detailed gold-coated mountings are reminiscent of Carolingian features in the decoration of Aachen Cathedral, where Charlemagne was crowned. In Edition 888, barrel, cap, rings and clip are all made of Au 750 / 18 K solid white gold and decorated with tsavorites – green garnets. The hand-worked, rhodium-coated Au 750 / 18 K solid gold nib is decorated by an engraving of an early Medieval pattern and the emperor’s monogram.
