The name Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec is synonymous with the glittering atmosphere of Belle Èpoque Paris. He immortalised the Parisian underworld of his era, while simultaneously challenging the genre of poster art and refining the techniques of lithographic printing. It was in the cabarets and nightclubs of Montmartre where he found his inspiration and the motifs that would characterise his unique style - the overall design of the Limited Edition recalls the riotous performances and risqué costumes of the cancan dancers. The cap is hand-painted to resemble a corset with small waist and seductive curves in red precious lacquer. The grid pattern of the windmill arms of the Moulin Rouge provided the inspiration for the design of the skeletonised upper part of the cap. A side of him, which was seldom brought to light, was his passion for equestrian paintings - the 925 silver barrel is enriched with a horse drawing of the early years of his career. In reference to the symbol of the Moulin Rouge, his preferred club, the clip is shaped like a windmill. A red garnet set in the cone of the Limited Edition is shaped in reference to the shoes worn by the legendary Moulin Rouge dancers. In homage to the great artist of the Moulin Rouge, a fine engraving of his signature bowler hat and pince-nez is found on the nib. The year 1891, when the first and most famous Moulin Rouge poster ‘La Goulue’ was created by Toulouse-Lautrec, is the inspiration behind the limitation of this Edition to 8 pieces. (1_8_91)
