To mark the 20th anniversary of the Montblanc Patron of Art Edition, Montblanc is honouring the founder of artistic patronage with an edition of precious fountain pens whose shape reflects the columns of a Roman temple. In the 888 edition, the body is shaped from precious marble and adorned with fine decorations on rings of Au 750 solid gold. The skeletonised cap bears the words ‘MAECENAS ATAVIS EDITE REGIBUS’ – the first line of Horace’s ode to Maecenas. Both writing instruments are decorated with fine engravings of laurel wreaths and the Roman numerals ‘MMXI’ on the Au 750 solid gold nib. A likeness of Maecenas is featured on the representation of an ancient Roman coin in the cone and completes this edition in honour of the founding father of artistic patronage.
