This ancient color dates back 1400 BC from the coast of Ancient Phoenicia. Purpura or Tyrian purple dyes were extracted from a rare sea snail. It quickly became the color of kings, nobles, priests and magistrates in heraldry, home decoration and clothing all around the Mediterranean.
