Caspar David Friedrich (1774 – 1840) was a 19th-century German Romantic landscape painter, generally considered the most important of the movement. The Limitation of 65 pieces honours C.D. Friedrich’s lifetime achievement. The design is inspired by the landscape paintings of C.D. Friedrich. The cap is influenced by the impression of the distance and the perspectives which are part of many of Friedrich´s paintings. The barrel is referring to the gothic style of the late medieval times. The nib is enriched by a scene from the painting "Wandered above the sea of fog" - which is one of Friedrich´s most famous paintings.
